Let’s Start Cooking!

Prep: 20 minutes — Bake: 30-35 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • Powdered sugar for topping after cake has cooled.

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease and lightly flower a 9×11/2 inch round pan or and 8x8x2 square baking pan. If using a non-stick pan, do not grease and flower it.
  • In a large mixing bowl combine flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Add milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat with an electric mixer on low speed until combined. Beat for two more minutes on medium speed, then add the egg and beat 2 minutes more.
  • Pour batter into pan
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes. Test to make sure the cake is done cooking by inserting a wooden toothpick in the center and if it comes out clean, then the cake is done cooking. Let cake cool for 10-15 minutes and then remove from baking pan. Let cool completely before dusting the top with the powdered sugar.

  • Serve warm or cooled and enjoy it with fresh fruit or ice cream
  • Powder sugar may melt on the top of the cake if it has not completely cooled before applying.
